Sinking In LP w/download (LUNGS-145)

Santa Rosa's best band has done something important, vital and oh so real. At it's core "Sinking In" is a frustrated reflective hardcore punk album tackling the struggles and conditions of the ever ripening world we live in. But there is a deeper vein of humanity, cooperation and hope at work here. They've always had a clear message of inclusivity, fun and forward thinking at their shows but to finally have that tangible ethos hit us in our homes, when we need it most, is a wonderful bit of fortune. And timing, damn. We are so excited to finally share this album with you. It's been quite the journey...

The first pressing of this is 300 black, 150 white and 50 silver veined vinyl housed in a 24pt reverse board sleeve with poster, 20 page booklet and download card included. Recorded and mastered by Andrew Oswald. Artwork and everything visual by J. Party.

Our take: Full-length debut from this California hardcore band with previous releases on Neck Chop and Iron Lung. Their first release came out way back in 2014, so it’s unsurprising that they’ve changed, but Sinking In is a stark leap forward. Acrylics always had an arty, off-kilter edge to their music, but on Sinking In, hardcore seems like just one of several influences rather than providing the over-arching framework for the entire aesthetic. Burners like “New Face” and “Awake” recall Bad Breeding’s richly textured anarcho-hardcore, while tracks like “Retreat” lean in to more of a noise rock influence. There are also two instrumental interludes (one spacey and ambient, the other mechanized and industrial) and they bookend LP with two psychedelic guitar freakouts that bring to mind Destruction Unit’s total sensory overload. Sinking In is more than just a mass of cool sounds or a heaping riff salad, it’s an ambitious, realized album with an ebb and flow that feels considered yet natural.
