Baus: Will Be Right Back cassette

In the words of the Almighty Biscuit, this is some "funky, scary shit". Infinitely danceable but equally off-kilter west coast Punk. Good music for a world stuck in a rutt.

Our take: Man, I cannot stop listening to this tape! Not Normal's description is not super informative so I don't know much of anything about Baus except that they are from somewhere on the west coast and that their music is absolutely killer. Not Normal's description also mentioned Biscuit from the Big Boys in passing, and while there's a touch of punk-funk here (mostly on the track "Persona," which sounds like it could have come off of any of the later Big Boys LPs), mostly Baus resemble the Big Boys in the way that they trample all over the walls between genres. There's melody here, there's aggression, as I noted there's a little bit of funk, a bit of post-punk (the aforementioned "Persona" sounds as much like Delta 5 as the Big Boys), a bit of hardcore... but it doesn't sound like a mish-mash, just like a bunch of freaks doing what they feel. The recording is just perfect... loud and clear without drawing attention to itself as either a "good" or a "bad" recording. So much of punk these days seems extremely stylized, but Baus sound fresh and original and honest in a way that very, very few others out there manage to capture. I really can't recommend this one highly enough.
