Geiger Counter: Nuclear 7"
“On this release, GIEGER COUNTER pummel is with the familiar barrage of distorted scandi-influenced crust core that we all love, want, and expect from the Minneapolis crust scene. For those unfamiliar GIEGER COUNTER style wise are reminiscent of late 90’s/ early 2000’s greats like STATE OF FEAR, SERVITUDE, & REACT but they also have an obvious love for Japanese hardcore from the same era.
From the artwork to the lyrics and the music itself GIEGER COUNTER’s “Nuclear “ EP is a dark , bleak, and desolate trip into our societies unrelenting quest for power and the ever-looming threat of annihilation. While these topics might seem redundant in punk GIEGER COUNTER have a chilling approach that will leave you speechless as your mind travels to dark places considering both our future and the past. This EP is available on mixed color recycled vinyl & traditional black. Overall we have 8 color copies to choose from!”

Our take: Latest 7” from these Minneapolis punks. These tracks come from the same session as the recent split tape with Zudas Crust I wrote about a few weeks ago and has a similar Japanese hardcore-influenced crust sound. The big chord changes on tracks like “Nuclear Solution” and the melodic guitar solos betray a Death Side influence but there’s also a punkier element to their sound that reminds me of old Pusmort Records bands like Final Conflict and Christ on Parade. This is true of the two tracks on the a-side, which remind me a lot of Final Conflict’s Ashes to Ashes LP. While a lot of bands influenced by Japanese hardcore can sound too slick, Geiger Counter keep things super raw and punk.
