The Wad: 2nd 7"

Benny's Business b/w I'm so Terminal+Gib's Tots

New Wave up your Ass

Risographed sleeves by Oddities.

Our take: Second 7" from this synth-punk project out of Missouri. As on their previous single on Lumpy, there's a definite Screamers-esque quality to the Wad's brooding synth-punk sound, but this time around the songs hit with even more impact and these three tracks feel like a weightier and more consequential affair than their debut. Depending on your degree of investment in Lumpy Records' tossed-off aesthetic that could be a good or a bad thing, but as a sophisticated aesthetic I'm going to come down hard in the "good" camp. All of the new Lumpy release are pretty killer, but I'd say that this one and the BB Eye 7" are neck-and-neck for the top of that worthy pack.
